The Creative Blogger Award

109557936_0e64df00b3

Many, many, many thanks to Peculiarb @The Book and the Bone and Yasaman @Following Muses for nominating me for this award! I’m so excited to do it! 🙂

The rules are:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Share five facts about yourself
  • Nominate some bloggers in return and notify them about their nomination
  • Keep the rules in your post to make it easy for everyone to know what to do

So here we go! Ten facts about me:

  1. I’m in love with London and really want to live there at some point.
  2. I’m planning on getting my driver’s license this summer.
  3. I still haven’t read any of Rick Riordan’s books. I know, I should be ashamed. But before you decide to kill me know that I am planning on starting The Lighning Thief tomorrow and if you do indeed kill me, I will never get to discover the amazeness that is Percy Jackson’s universe and it will totally be your fault!
  4. I’m a self taught sketch artist but I don’t do as well with brushes as I do with pencils.
  5. The last film I watched was Deadpool. Loved it!
  6. I’ve been having a sweet tooth for Twizzlers for over a week now but unfortunately I can’t find them here so that sucks.
  7. My favorite Starbucks drink is Frappucino Caramel
  8. I am obsessed with Christine’s (polandbananasBOOKS) videos. I think she’s quite awesome!
  9. I’m a huge procrastinator. I’ve been planning on writing a review on The 5th Wave for over two weeks now but it still hasn’t happened. It will though. Soon. Or not so soon. I’m really bad.
  10. I’m currently writing a fantasy story that takes place in a fictional land I created and I’m really proud of how it’s going so far. I really hope I’ll be able to finish it so I can try to publish it one day.

Slytherin House Crest

“Or perhaps in Slytherin, you’ll find your real friends. Those cunning folk use any means, to achieve their ends.”

Hey guys! Today I’m back with a new drawing! Yay! I’m very excited about this one because I haven’t been drawing very much lately due to my hectic schedule and I’m very glad I found the time and inspiration to do this, last weekend! So I figured it was time to share it with you! I was going to draw the Gryffindor Crest at first, but it was way too detailed for me to finish in one sitting so I decided to do Slytherin instead, since Slytherin is also my own house. But I am going to be doing the other houses as well, so keep an eye out for that. Although, I have no idea when I’m going to have time to draw again.

Book Traveling Thursday #8

168709Hello everyone! It’s Thursday again! So do you know what time it is? Book Traveling time! Yay! For those of you who don’t know, Book Traveling Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Danielle at Danielle’s Book Blog and Catia at The Girl Who Read Too Much and you can check out the rules and themes in the Goodreads page here! Trust me, you won’t regret joining in the fun! This week’s theme is one that animal lover me especially likes:

“Everyone needs a companion. Choose your favorite bookish pet.”

Why is it, that the first thing that always comes to mind for these is Harry Potter? Well, probably because Harry Potter is everything (well, not everything but it’s like 90% of things) but I am not going to do an HP book today, partly because I don’t have enough time to browse through the million covers and because there were actually three Harry Potter options for this and there is absolutely no way I’ll be able to choose one. So I decided to go with Saphira from The Inheritance Cycle, which is a series I basolutely adore! Even though she’s not exactly a pet and I consider her more of a side character, if not a main one. But for the sake of my sanity (because trying to choose between Hedwig, Buckbeak and Fawks will drive me crazy) we’re going to go ahead and call her a pet. A very large, very magical, very smart and very stubborn pet. And plus, she’s a dragon and she’s quite awesome and who wouldn’t want to have a ‘pet’ dragon anyways? I mean, look how beautiful she looks in the movie!

Review on “Illuminae”

23395680Series: The Illuminae Files #1

Genre: Science Fiction, YA

Format: hardcover, audiobook

Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers

Published: October 20th, 2015

Pages: 599

Goodreads summary:

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

My thoughts:

Note: I’ve included a couple of spoilery comments in white font. If you’ve read this book already, you can check them out by selecting the text in the missing spaces.

“Miracles are statistical improbabilities. And fate is an illusion humanity uses to comfort itself in the dark. There are no absolutes in life, save death.”

Illuminae is undoubtedly the coolest book I’ve ever read! Why? Because of the unique format which really makes the book stand out and also makes for a very unique reading experience. The story is told entirely through hacked IMs and emails, surveillance reports, interviews, journal entries etc. Now you might be thinking, what the heck? What kind of book is that? A freaking amazing one is my answer! Seriously, if you have reservations about reading this because of the format, then don’t. It’s a very brilliant way to tell the story in my opinion, and the book as a whole is literally a piece of art. And on top of that, it has a great plot, some badass characters, plenty of action and suspense and an awesome setting in the middle of space. And there was also plenty of humor in it which made it even greater to read! What else to ask for?

Recent Cover Reveals and Updates

Hi everyone! I’m so sorry I haven’t been posting that much lately. It’s Easter week here in Greece, which means I’m super busy! But since I’m currently sprawled on my couch, wearing pajamas and with super crazy hair, and stuffing my mouth with chocolate and strawberries, I figured it would be nice to write a small blog post to tell you what I’ve been up to lately and share some bookish stuff with you. By the way, I’ve been really, really craving Twizzlers for several days now and I can’t find them anywhere here! Help, please!

But let’s forget food for a while (just a little while, I promise) and focus on… books! What else? I’m currently reading The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken and I really like it so far. Unfortunately, I haven’t had that much time to read but the next couple days won’t be as hectic as the last ones, so I’m confident I’ll be able to finish it by Thursday. And I’m also still in the middle of Passenger (took a small break from reading to cross out a couple of other books from my tbr), so I’m hoping I’ll finish this as well by the end of April. I just realized I’m reading two Alexandra Bracken books at once. Awesome!

I’ve also been doing a bit of writing. I’m working on a couple of reviews which I’m gonna post soon. One of them will be up tomorrow so keep an eye out for that. Aaand I managed to write 30.000 words which was my goal for Camp Nanowrimo which means I won! I’m so excited! I didn’t manage to finish my other two short stories but I’ve done a lot of progress so it’s still a win for me. I usually don’t write that much but it seems my creativity was kinder than usual this month.

IMG_20160416_105856And on that note, I decided to pick up my pencils this weekend and finally made another drawing. It’s been a while since the last one I made. If you’re following me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen it already, but I’m gonna share it here too later this week.I’m hoping to draw more during my break but we’ll see. And I’ve also been making some handmade quotes from books lately to decorate my bookshelf. They turned a lot better than I expected so now I’m thinking of opening up an Etsy shop to sell them. So I’m really excited about that too!

And lastly, I’ve watched a couple of movies with my dad (he and I have similar tastes and hobbies so we’re taking advantage of the Easter break to have fun together). The last one was Everest. It was good but not as tense as I expected. We’re planning on watching Deadpool and The Revenant too, this week, so I can’t wait! Especially for Deadpool! And  of course I watched the new episodes of Outlander and the first episode of Game of Thrones! I have no idea what to expect from the rest of the season after this one! And I don’t think I’m gonna handle it if Jon Snow stays dead for good. He’s my favorite character and I really, really hope he’ll be okay. Eventually.

Moving on to some covers that were recently (kinda) revealed and caught my eye!

A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes #2) by Sabaa Tahir

25558608

I have to admit I liked the cover of the first one a bit better but this one is interesting as well. And I absolutely loved An Ember in the Ashes so I can’t wait to get my hands on this one and continue with Laia’s and Elias’s story! It comes out in August 30th so we still have a while to go but it’s definitely one of the books I’m gonna be preordering this summer!

Book Traveling Thursday #7

168709Hi guys! It’s time for another Book Traveling Thursday! I can’t believe I’ve done seven already! Book Traveling Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Danielle at Danielle’s Book Blog and Catia at The Girl Who Read Too Much. Check out the rules and themes in the Goodreads page here! It’s really fun to do! This week’s theme is:

“World Book Day is in a couple of days! Choose one of your all-time favorite books.”

I decided not to pick another Harry Potter book (although that was my first thought, what a surprise!) and go with a different one from another one of my favorite series. Clockwork Princess. I could have just easily chosen Clockwork Angel or Clockwork Prince, I absolutely love all three books in The Infernal Devices, but in my opinion Clockwork Princess was an epic conclusion to the trilogy so I had to go with that!

Q&A!

Thank you to everyone who asked me questions here and on Instagram! I had a lot of fun doing this Q&A! Here are my answers!

If you could be a supporting character on any book, which would choose and why? (by jess1606)

I’m gonna be really unoriginal with that one and say Harry Potter. It would be so cool to be a student at Hogwarts and be a part of the wizarding world in general! And I’d love to hang out with Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys! Although, I’m not sure if that could actually happen since I’m in Slytherin. According to Pottermore, at least. Shh, don’t judge!

What’s your favorite movie adapted from a book? (by Anna)

Well, aside from most of the Harry Potter movies of course, I really enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars and I appreciated how close it was to the book. I cried with both. And I also loved Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 2! They were both pretty epic.

Do you think you will move to a different country in the future? (by followingmusesblog)

I actually have plans to move to England in a couple of years since I want to do a Master’s in Creative Writing there. I’ve already been to London twice and I’m so in love with it! It would be seriously awesome to live there! But I would also love to live in the US, either in Seattle or Philadelphia, since I have relatives there.

If you could be part of any fictional friendship, which one? (by v_geekyfangirl)

Such an awesome question! I feel like all of the questions could have a Harry Potter answer, so I’m gonna go ahead and break the pattern by choosing another magical trio. Baz, Simon and Penny from Carry On. They were all pretty awesome individually but they were even more amazing together! And I loved the way they interacted with each other! Penny is really smart, Simon is hilarious and Baz has that sense of snarky humor I love, so it would be awesome to hang out with them. Plus, magic!

This or That Book Tag

imageedit_29_8915774438

Happy Monday everyone! I am back today with another tag! I was tagged to do this by the amazing Felicia @ Fell For Books. Thank you so much! Go check out Felicia’s blog guys! You won’t regret it! 😉

The rules:

  • Mention the creator of the tag (Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks).
  • Thank the blogger who tagged you!
  • Choose one of the options, you don’t have to tell the reasons why you chose that but you can also do them if you want to.
  • Tag 10 other people to do this tag to spread the love!

1.Reading on the couch or on the bed?

Definitely on the bed. I do spend a lot of time reading on the couch, but nothing is compared to the comfort of my bed and a soft pillow.

2.Male main character or female character?

It actually doesn’t matter. Both male and female characters can be quite strong, funny and driven and I enjoy reading books from either pov. But just for the sake of it I’ll say male because female characters tend to annoy me a lot.

3.Sweet snacks or salty snacks when reading?

I don’t really mind, I can eat anything! But I’m a huge fan of candy so sweet.

4.Trilogies or quartets?

Definitely quartets just because there are more books to read with your favorite characters.

Camp Nanowrimo Update

Hey guys! Hope you’re all having a great weekend! We’re halfway through the month so I figured why not post an update of my writing adventure this month? Unfortunately, I haven’t had too much time to write as I’ve been very busy with college, family, work, reading and taking pictures for Instagram.:P However, I did manage to complete my first story “We Could Be Stars” and I am currently working on my second one “The Only Dream” which is about a young writer with a troubled past who falls in love with an artist who also has issues of her own. Yeah, I know, pretty much every YA story out there but this is not about me being original, it’s about me finding the motivation to write more, and I thought it would be really interesting to work with a character who’s also a writer because I’ve never done it before. Overall, I have written 16.238 words out of my goal of 30.000 so I’m right on schedule and I really hope I’ll be able to finish this time! As long as the books in my TBR don’t keep distracting me and as long as writer’s block doesn’t decide to pay me a visit.

Here’s a small excerpt from my story. This scene was also the inspiration for the title.

“My sister used to say that the stars are alive just like people are. That they look down on us and smile at our achievements. And frown at our mistakes.”
I don’t say anything, I just listen to him speak. He must be drunk, because he never talks like that when he’s sober. About his family or the past. I don’t talk about the past either. It’s like an unwritten code between us. It makes things easier and harder at the same time.
So many secrets. So many words left unspoken. But it doesn’t matter. All that matters is this. Him. Us.
I think of what he said. About the stars looking on us.
The stars must have frowned at me a lot. All I’ve made in my life, is mistakes. So many mistakes. And this is one too. But I don’t care.
“She also said that when people die, they become stars as well. Up there in the sky.”
He’s whispering in my ear and I don’t want this to ever end. I want to hold onto him forever. “We could be stars, Hayden. Looking down at the world from above. From our heaven in the clouds.”
“I just want to look at you.” I murmur and kiss him before he can respond.

Please, let me know what you think. And for those of you who are participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, how are you doing so far?

My thoughts and reactions while reading Lady Midnight

FullSizeRender5

Lady Midnight was absolutely brilliant! I loved everything about it and, as it always happens with Cassandra Clare’s books and Shadowhunters, I fangirled a lot while reading it! Now, I don’t know about you guys, but when I read a book I like to keep little notes about it and write down my thoughts and my favorite quotes, so I can use them for my reviews. So, when I was going through those notes for my review on Lady Midnight last Monday, I thought it would be fun idea to share them with you here! These are basically the reactions I had while reading the book and I tried to keep them as genuine as possible. Enjoy!

Warning 1: This post contains a lot of fangirling
Warning 2: This post contains major spoilers about Lady Midnight, so if you haven’t read this book yet do not read further.

Page 46: “The one who understands your music. Emma couldn’t play a note on any instrument but Julian understood her music.” Aw, Jem told Emma about zhi yin. Ah, the memories. I need to reread The Infernal Devices again.
Page 70: A rune for birth control? Of course, Clary would create one. We all remember the awkwardness of he situation in that cave in City of Heavenly Fire.
Page 73: “I have been lollipoped.” Hahaha!
Page 75: “Julian looked over with a smile. The smile made him look like sunlight in human form. It didn’t hurt that the dish towel around his neck had kittens on it, and there was pancake butter on his calloused hands.” I’m in love with him already. And kittens. Seriously?
Page 80: “You don’t have to do this for me.”
“I think I do. I think I remember making a vow to that effect.”
“Wither thou goest, I will go, whatever stupid thing you do, I shall do also? Was that the vow?”
I just love these two together.
Page 92: “Laws are meaningless. There is nothing more important than love. And no law higher.”
Not according to the Clave.
